Travel Bed for Infants

If you are traveling, it's wise to bring a travel bed for infants with you. What can you use as a travel bed for infants?

Sometimes my husband and I brought one of those portable bed rails and we would sleep with our baby in the bed with us. James would be on one side, I would be in the middle, and the baby would be in between me and the bed rail. That way, I could breastfeed easily in bed and the mesh sides of the bed rail allowed me to sleep peacefully knowing she could breathe.

The nice thing about the portable bed rail is that it will be used when your toddler moves to a "big bed" and will prevent her from falling out of bed. So you really get your money's worth with this one. This makes a great travel bed for infants.

Another option is a "real" travel bed for infants. My sister-in-law has The Snuggle Nest and not only do they put it in their bed at home but they have also taken it camping and their litle one loves it. There are three walls around the baby's head and sides, and your baby is placed in between mom and dad's (or mom and mom's... or mom and...oh, I won't go on with all the possibilities) pillows. You don't have to worry about rolling over on baby and baby is still safe and sound and within reach.

The Travel N Trundle Infant is another kind of travel bed for infants. It is four sided, and similar to a crib except that is is only about 6 inches high. It's like a portable bassinet - and it's lightweight. Click here to see what it looks like. The only disadvantage with this one is that you can't put it on a table or dresser because the baby could fall out (potentially...). So you would ahve to put it on the floor. And what if you get out of bed in the middle of the night and step on it? AGH!

There is also the Travel Lite Crib by Graco, if you want an actual crib for your baby. It is 20% smaller than standard playpens and keep in mind that it only hold babies up to 15 pounds, which in my case would be fine because my girls are so tiny. BUt if you have a 10 pound newborn, they might quickly outgrow this.

The other option would be to get the Travel Solutions PlayYard by Combi or the Graco Pack N Play. I have the Pack N play but I think I like the Combi one better. It has music and lights and it vibrates. It looks awesome to me. Put this one on your registry for sure!

The Graco Pack N play was great for us. When the girls were little, they slept in the bassinet part of it, and when they outgrew that, they slept in the playpen whenever we were away. Now my sister-in-law has it, so it has been through three babies and is still going strong. Thanks to Dad and Lynda for buying this for us!

Above all, the most important thing to remember about travel beds for infants is that your baby is safe. It's up to you to decide if you want something lightweight, or long lasting, small, or large.
