Make Breastfeeding Easy and Discreet!

Breast feeding Clothes

Q: I am planning on breast feeding my baby. Do I need to buy special breast feeding clothes?

A: Well, that depends. I found that most breast feeding clothes were a bit cumbersome. They usually have an extra layer of fabric covering slit type openings that your poke your breast through to breast feed your baby.

However, I usually just wore a normal T-shirt and pulled it up to breast feed. A blouse that buttons up the front works well, too. As for dressing up, I once wore a nice skirt and a cross-over type blouse for a wedding, which I thought look quite nice.

The only problem with converting your normal clothes into breastfeeding clothes is that when you pull up your shirt, part of your midriff will be exposed.

When I used to breastfeed in public, I tucked a receiving blanket into the strap of my bra and let it drape over my shoulder so that it hung down and covered up my exposed side. I never felt embarassed or ashamed to breastfeed in public (if everyone else can eat in public, why can't my daughter?), I just didn't want to show everyone my fat tummy. (ha ha!)

There are some quite nice nursing clothes at Motherwear.com.
